It's been a while....

Damoy here...I'm one of the founders of The Vegan Review and from now on I'll be taking charge of these newsletters and mixing things up a bit.

What's not new?

We received word from our friends at ProVeg international that this week, over 193 UN member states will be meeting to discuss the most urgent environmental issues across the globe. Why's this news to the vegan world? Well...Because food systems are not to be a part of this main conversation, and we know that our collective eating habits is the biggest driving force of the world's environmental issues.

As a result, ProVeg and over 140 NGOs have signed a letter urging the UN to focus on the impact animal agriculture has on the planet.

THIS! and Oatly miss the mark(eting)

Last week, Oatly issued an apology via their instagram account after posting an image of a jacket with patches attached containing statements like: "kiss me I'm part-time vegan", "part-time vegan till I die", and "justice for planet Earth from 8-9am".

Oatly's followers were quick to condemn the image because of course, we all know there's no such thing as a part-time vegan. Many also saw the lighthearted approach to this subject as an insult to the great work being done by so many to bring an end to animal suffering.

Not to be outdone by Oatly, yesterday, popular alt-meat brand THIS! (known for their off-beat marketing) posted a video titled "vegans taste meat. Sort of"

The idea of the video was to trick "vegans" into believing they were actually eating meat but in the end... You guessed it. It was actually THIS! 🙈

In a show of solidarity, vegans and non-vegans alike took to the comment section of the Instagram post to point out that the ad simply didn't make sense.

Check it out for yourself here and let me know your thoughts.

Other points that caught my eye

That's it for now. These updates will sometimes be frequent, or infrequent depending on what is happening in the world of veganism.

I'd love to hear back from you on the points above and anything else you might want to talk about. Reply to this email to keep the conversation going.
